The emerald ash borer is an invasive pest that kills ash trees, and it has spread across the U.S. and has now been confirmed by the city to have a presence in Denver. What does that mean for your Ash tree? The answer is in prevention.

Is my Denver Ash tree worth treating for Emerald Ash Borer?
If you want to protect your tree from these destructive pests, then yes, it is wise to have it treated. We offer trunk injection applications to prevent Emerald Ash Borer, which should be done every two years to effectively protect a tree.
What does an emerald ash borer do?
Emerald Ash Borers kill Ash trees by tunneling under the bark and disrupting the flow of nutrients and water, eventually leading to the death of the tree. Once infested, it cannot be saved, and a healthy Ash tree will typically die within 2-4 years. So prevention is key! Contact us today for a free tree consultation and estimate.
What our Arborist and Owner, Aaron Opgenorth has to say about the Emerald Ash Borer: “This is a pretty nasty little beetle. If you value your tree and want to keep it, you should treat it. The treatments are all preventative, so if you want to protect your Ash tree, do not wait until you see damage to treat your tree.”

Our tree company offers trunk injection treatments which are the most effective way to apply the treatment. The trunk injection has several benefits: the chemical is all contained in the tree, you're not getting it into the ground or air, and so it's safe for kids and pets. Trunk injections also last for two years, whereas soil injections need to be performed once a year and sprays should be done even a few times a year. So trunk injections are the most effective, best option.
Our company is fully licensed and trained to properly calculate the Ash borer injections based on the size and condition of your tree, and make sure they effectively administered. For example, a larger tree will need more injection points and a higher amount than a small Ash tree. Our certified arborists will come and inspect your trees and recommend the most effective treatment. With cracked trees or small Ash trees, we may recommend soil injection as a solution if trunk injections are not feasible. Keep in mind that Emerald Ash Borer is not picky – any Ash tree is fair game including Green Ash, Purple Ash, and White Ash – they are all susceptible to the Emerald Ash Borer.
Note: While trunk injections cost a little more than soil or spray treatments, they are always less expensive in the long run as they last longer than yearly treatments. Trunk injections are also the most efficient, effective way to protect an Ash tree. With trunk injections, the tree will push the chemical throughout the whole canopy, which is much more effective than sprays, which are not effective on large trees.

Emerald Ash Borer Treatment & Pricing
Emerald Ash Borer treatment pricing can range from just under $100 upwards to $600-$700 for a very large multi-stem Ash tree. Our certified arborists will inspect your tree in person and recommend the proper treatment to provide an exact estimate before we do the work. For our trunk injections, we are licensed and trained to use Mectinite, which is formulated to move through the tree's vascular system when injected – meaning, the entire tree canopy is protected from the Emerald Ash Borer. We also may recommend soil injections for young or damaged/split Ash trees. It is always recommended to use Certified Arborists that are licensed with the Colorado Department of Agriculture to administer the applications safely.
