Winter Tree Watering

Winter watering during Denver and the Front Range dry spells is important for the health of your trees! It is ideal to water 1-2 times per month from late fall into early spring during dry spells. An inch of snow, for example, isn't enough! Water only on warm days when temperatures are above 40 degrees Fahrenheit and the soil is thawed. This will ensure your trees thrive during our dry winter weather.

On average, it takes 10-13 inches of snow to equal just one inch of rain, although this ratio can vary from two inches for sleet to nearly fifty inches for very dry, powdery snow under certain conditions. So don't rely on Denver's fleeting dustings to keep your trees happy, break out the hose and water them! They will reward you for the drink by providing shade and living happily for many years or decades to come.

Winter is also a great time to prune trees while they are dormant. This is particularly true for fruit trees. Reach out to us for a free tree consultation with an arborist. We offer general shaping & health pruning services, and also can remove hazardous or broken limbs over your home or electric wires to prevent future storm damage. Consistent pruning will help your tree stand up better to snowstorms and winds and will reduce damage from broken limbs.

We are certified arborists who specialize in the greater Denver area. We can help you keep your trees healthy and happy for years to come.
